Use Markdown in questions and answer options

4 min read · August 2026

Markdown gives technical and text-heavy questions clear structure without making authors write HTML. QuizMachine supports it in question bodies and text answer options.

Turn on Markdown for a question body

Open the question in the quiz editor, enable Allow Markdown formatting, enter your Markdown source, and save the question.

Write the question with familiar syntax

Question Markdown supports emphasis, headings, ordered and unordered lists, links, inline and fenced code, tables, and TeX-style math. For example:

# Network basics

Which protocol provides **reliable, ordered** delivery?

- Consider the transport layer.
- Compare `TCP` and `UDP`.

Answer options

Text answer options are interpreted as Markdown automatically, so they do not need a separate switch. Inline formatting such as bold, italics, links and code is the most reliable choice for compact option labels.

**TCP** — connection-oriented
`UDP` — connectionless
_Neither_ protocol

Draft and preview Markdown online

Keep questions readable

  • Keep answer options short and favor inline formatting; reserve headings, tables and long code blocks for the question body.
  • Preview the quiz before publishing, especially when a question contains a table, code fence or equation.
  • Use Markdown instead of raw HTML. QuizMachine sanitizes rendered content and may remove unsupported HTML.
