Turn a result into a focused retake

~4 min read ยท September 2026

A finished result already knows which topics went well and which did not. With detailed training retakes enabled, that result becomes the starting point for a shorter, targeted attempt instead of a full re-run of the quiz.

Turn it on in the quiz settings

The setting is Retake with detailed training requests, beside the other retake settings. The quiz must already allow multiple attempts: the setting is stored as off whenever it does not, so a quiz that permits only one attempt cannot offer a training retake by accident. No paid plan is needed — it is available on Free as well as on every paid plan.

Read the topic summary first

When a quiz's questions carry topics, a completed result shows a percentage for each topic and marks the highest Strongest and the lowest Needs practice. Both badges are comparisons between topics, so a result whose topics all scored the same claims neither. The percentages come from the points the attempt was actually awarded, not from a re-run against the quiz as it stands today.

Four ways to start again

Under Train again, the result page offers:

  • Retake the whole quiz — the ordinary retake, unchanged;
  • Retake questions answered incorrectly at least a chosen number of times, counted across the signed-in learner's own history;
  • Select topics — only the questions carrying the topics the learner picks; and
  • Retake the three weakest topics, using the topic results of the attempt just finished.

What the history-based choice needs

The topic choices read the attempt on screen, so they work for an anonymous respondent too. Counting how often a question has been answered incorrectly needs an account to count across, so that choice asks an anonymous visitor to sign in rather than guessing. Whichever choice is used, the server signs the selected question set before the attempt starts, so the browser cannot widen it, and the attempt is scored on the questions it actually served.

Not the same as Random from Topic

Random from Topic is a question type an author places in a quiz: the slot draws a question from a topic when the quiz is taken, and every respondent meets it. A training retake is the respondent's own decision after a result, and it re-serves questions the quiz already contains. Use the question type to vary what a quiz asks; use training retakes to let someone practise what they missed.
